Workshops

In addition to the formal courses, here at Rock Salt Scuba we offer a number of non-certification workshops that are intended to either give you the opportunity to improve your dive skills in certain areas or get a feel for what is involved in some of our training.

Each of the workshops we offer naturally leads in to at least one of the courses we offer and many of the skills conducted in the workshop may be credited towards on going training. However, as their is no pre-defined set of skills, each workshop may be tailored to suit the participants.

We offer both half day and full day workshops in the following areas:

Buoyancy & Trim

Many divers lack the buoyancy control skills required for even basic dives. Our buoyancy workshop focuses on ensuring that divers are correctly weighted and have finesse in terms of control, positioning, trim and balance. This workshop can be undertaken in either a wetsuit or a drysuit.

Overhead Protocols

Diving in overhead environments such as caverns and wrecks has increased risk, and those risks are much larger when divers are not operating as an effective team. This workshop focuses on effective team protocols and line use for all types of overhead environment diving.

Stage Tanks & Pony Bottles

Whether it's a pony bottle, a stage bottle or a deco bottle - the skills and knowledge needed are the same! This workshop focuses on how to setup and carry an appropriate stage bottle and covers some of the skills associated with their use.

Surface Marker Buoys

A Delayed Surface Marker Buoy should be standard equipment for all divers! This workshop provides an introduction to different types of DSMBs and the their use.

Many divers consider twinsets to be only of use to technical divers doing deep dives. However, the truth is that twinsets have many advantages even for recreational divers. This workshop focuses on common equipment configurations and the specific skills required to dive a set of twin tanks effectively.

Skill Level Assessment

One aspect of Rock Salt Scuba that sets us apart from other training providers is that we offer free pre-course skill assessments. We offer this at a pool or local dive site and is an informal opportunity to get some feedback on the appropriateness of the course(s) you are interested in.

There isn't any teaching involved in our skill assessments, just diving and talking! This is a great opportuity to find out whether you are thinking about the best courses for you and to get an indication of whether you have the pre-requisite skills and knowledge to succeed in the course.

We are pleased to offer this service on-demand, all you need to do is contact us to find a suitable time and venue. We encourage you to bring along your usual dive gear and a list of questions that you want to ask - the more questions you ask us, the better we will be able to tailor a course to your aspirations - or indeed refer you elsewhere. Just because we can teach you something doesn't mean we should! Our values are such that we beleive that you should get the best training available - and if can't offer you that training then we will tell you who can.
