Divemaster

The SDI Divemaster Course is the first professional level certification. During this course you will be challenged and learn what it is like to work with divers as they experience the underwater world for the first time and you will learn how to lead already certified divers and show them some of your favorite critters or dive sites. You will also learn how to manage divers, work the dive deck of a boat and gain many valuable skills that will help in your diving career. Your skills will be refined to demonstration quality and your knowledge increased to that of a professional. After you have completed the SDI Divemaster course you can move onto the SDI Assistant Instructor Course where you will learn more about academic presentations and have the ability to teach certain SDI specialties.

Assistant Instructor

The SDI Assistant instructor course is designed for you to gain practical teaching experience with an active SDI Instructor or Instructor Trainer. You will help an Instructor teach an Open Water Scuba Diver course, Advanced Diver Course, and Rescue Diver Course. You will also learn how to prepare lesson plans, give academic presentations and general dive management techniques beyond those covered in your Divemaster course.

Technical Divemaster

The TDI Technical Divemaster programme is designed to develop the skills and knowledge necessary for an individual to lead certified Technical Divers in the open water environment. Many Sport divers and instructors wishing to open up more opportunities become Technical Divemasters as it helps advance dive theory and teaches more advanced diving techniques that employers are looking for in the business of diving.

Going Pro?

Many dive stores and instructors will encourage all divers completing their Rescue Diver course to consider enrolling in a Divemaster programme. Typically, the reaons provided include suggestions such as "it will improve your diving skills" or "you'll learn more about diving".

Here at Rock Salt Scuba our approach is different - we actively try and discourage divers from entering our professional level courses! Not everyone should be a Divemaster and there are much better options for improving dive skills and extending your diving knowledge. The Divemaster and Assistant Instructor programmes that we offer are best suited for divers who want to make diving their career or who actively want to teach scuba diving.

Don't beleive the marketing hype about "living the dream", working in the dive industry isn't all about sun-kissed beaches and hanging around in your board shorts getting a tan whilst doing something you love.
